NHL waivers, goalies, trades and league reports

AI for fantasy hockey

League Loom is a free, read-only connector that brings your ESPN or Fantrax NHL league into ChatGPT and Claude for in-season help: waiver adds, goalie coverage, keeper and dynasty trades, and weekly reports.

Private Fantrax leagues read fully with your session cookie. Add it on a computer, then ask in Claude's phone app or ChatGPT on the web.

How to connect

1

Add the connector

In Claude or any MCP tool, add a custom connector; in ChatGPT on the web, turn on developer mode and use the + button on the Plugins page. Give it a name and paste the League Loom URL as the server address.

2

Choose your leagues

Load your leagues in the setup wizard. Select a personal team for team-specific help, or leave it unselected for league overviews. No API keys.

3

Just ask

Ask about your roster, waivers, matchups, and more, in plain language, across every league.

Open setup wizard →

Your tool asks for a name and this URL. Then connect your leagues in the setup wizard. Personal team selection is optional.

A practical guide to your NHL league

Connect the right league

Choose your provider from ESPN or Fantrax, then load your NHL league. Verify the displayed sport and season, especially after a league renews. A private Fantrax league needs your Fantrax session cookie saved at setup for matchup scores and transactions. Follow the provider guide below for access requirements.

Points or categories

Start with points versus category scoring, then separate skater and goalie needs. Confirm goalie minimums, ratio categories, and lineup rules when they are not returned.

Draft and keeper preparation

Review depth across forwards, defensemen, and goalies. Use returned draft history or salary fields where available, and supply missing keeper costs and rules. Treat prior-season totals as historical context.

Waivers and weekly reports

Ask for roster checks, returned matchup information, recent moves, and available-player candidates. The weekly digest samples candidates by position need and provider order; it is not a complete player ranking or projection model.

One team or several leagues

Name one league for a focused report, or ask for all connected leagues. If no personal team is identified, you get league overviews. Mixed connections can show team reports and league overviews together.

Know what needs another source

Per-player stat categories are returned only where a provider or public player research exposes them. ESPN player lookups can include season actual and projected values for up to five players per call, keyed by ESPN stat IDs rather than category names. Fantrax available-player data in viewable leagues can include the league's stat columns, but rostered Fantrax players come back without them. Check returned values against your platform before exact category math. Matchup reads summarize team scores rather than a category-by-category breakdown. Category matchup forecasts, full NHL game schedules, power-play deployment, and confirmed goalie starts are not supplied. Verify starts and roles separately before recommending a stream. Fantrax matchup scores and transactions need a publicly viewable league or your Fantrax session cookie saved at setup.

Worked example

Check goalie coverage before streaming

Illustrative workflow. Player availability, roster slots, and rules depend on your connected league.

  1. Establish the roster need

Suppose one rostered goalie carries an injury flag. Check your other goalies and confirm your league's goalie-start requirements before looking for cover.

  2. Check what the data cannot settle

A goalie listed as healthy and available is only a candidate. Confirm the real NHL schedule, expected starter, and lineup eligibility using current sources. Do not count an unconfirmed appearance toward a minimum.

  3. Keep the recommendation conditional

Compare the likely benefit with the player you would drop and any returned FAAB or waiver priority. State missing evidence and assumptions, then make any move yourself on the provider.

Copy the prompt for your next decision

Paste one into your connected AI conversation. Each starts by checking the team and season.

1. Check my hockey leagues

Review my connected hockey leagues and confirm their seasons and scoring formats. For each identified team, summarize roster needs and draft or weekly priorities. Otherwise give a league overview. Separate returned facts, missing data, and outside research before suggesting any action.

2. Prepare for my draft

Use League Loom to confirm my NHL league, season and scoring format, then read the league settings, roster slots and any returned draft or keeper data. If the league or season is unclear, ask me before advising. Explain how this scoring and these roster slots change the value of forwards, defensemen and goalies. List the positions to prioritize and the questions I still need answered. Treat last season's totals as history, not a forecast, and cite current news or rankings separately. Ask for keeper rules or costs that were not returned. I will make my own picks.

3. Plan my goalie coverage

Use League Loom to confirm my NHL team, season and lineup period, then read my roster, scoring settings and goalie slots. List my goalies with their returned status and explain which goalie stats my scoring rewards where the settings show it. Confirmed starts and full NHL game schedules are not returned, so list what I should verify elsewhere before relying on a goalie. Keep locked slots unchanged and ask me to confirm any unknown lock state. Suggest a backup only from returned available players. I will make any moves myself.

4. Plan a waiver claim

Use League Loom to confirm my NHL team and season, then read my roster, scoring and available-player pool. Suggest up to three available adds with a possible drop, the roster need each fills and the trade-off. Use remaining FAAB or waiver priority only where returned. Respect roster locks and ask me to confirm unknown eligibility and the claim deadline. Flag missing data, and cite line changes, injuries or goalie news separately as outside research. Return a short add/drop table. I will submit any claims myself.

In season

Fantasy hockey waiver wire and goalie coverage with AI

Once the NHL season is underway, most weekly decisions are pickups and goalie coverage. League Loom gives Claude or ChatGPT your ESPN or Fantrax roster, scoring settings, goalie slots and the available players your provider returns, plus remaining FAAB or waiver priority where it comes back.

The assistant weighs each add against the player you would drop and labels line changes, injuries and starting goalies as outside research to check.

Start from your roster need

Ask which position your roster is short at under your league's slots and scoring before looking at who is hot. A roster carrying an injured defenseman needs something different from one with an extra center.

Goalies need a second source

Goalie status comes back, but confirmed starts and full NHL game schedules do not. Have the assistant list each goalie's open questions, then confirm the starter and game count before you stream one.

Points and categories read differently

In points leagues, compare returned fantasy points. In category leagues, compare only returned stat values or labeled research: Fantrax available-player data can include the league's stat columns, and ESPN player lookups cover up to five players per call.

Plan this week's pickups

Use League Loom to confirm my NHL team, league, season and scoring format, then read my roster, goalie slots, scoring settings and the available-player pool. If the league or season is unclear, ask me before advising. Name the position my roster most needs this week under our slots and scoring, then suggest up to three available adds with a possible drop for each, using returned fantasy points or stat columns, and my remaining FAAB or waiver priority only where returned. For any goalie, list what I must confirm elsewhere: the expected starter and how many games that team plays this week. Label line changes, injuries and news as outside research. I will submit any claims myself.

What it will not do

  • Confirm tonight's starting goalie, a player's line or a power-play unit.
  • Count real NHL games per week. Check the schedule separately.
  • Submit a claim. You add and drop players in ESPN or Fantrax.

Trades

A fantasy hockey trade analyzer for keeper and dynasty leagues

For an NHL trade in an ESPN or Fantrax league, League Loom returns who rosters each player, their league points, projections where returned, age, injury status and, on Fantrax, current salary, plus the roster spots the deal needs. The assistant weighs that against your scoring and roster slots and gives its own accept, pass or counter.

League Loom supplies facts and arithmetic, never a verdict. Draft picks, contract years and cap limits in a hockey league come from you.

Keeper and dynasty value

Age and returned salary help frame a long-term deal. Tell the assistant your keeper limits, contract terms and how many seasons you are planning for, since those rules are not returned.

Picks and prospects

Future draft pick ownership is returned only for Sleeper dynasty leagues, which do not include hockey, so list the picks in a hockey deal yourself. Unrostered prospects need outside research, labeled as such.

Goalies and categories

A goalie in a category league moves wins, saves and ratio categories at once. Compare categories only from returned stat values or labeled research, and check each goalie's workload separately.

Roster spots and salary

A 2-for-1 frees a roster spot, and on Fantrax the returned salaries show what each side takes on. Ask what you would add with the open spot.

Illustrative example with fictional players. It shows the shape of an answer, not a valuation or a recorded league.

You askFantrax keeper league, points scoring. I am offered Forward A, 23, for my Defenseman B, 31, and my 2027 second-round pick. Should I take it?

Example answer

Fantrax returned a salary for both players: Forward A costs less to keep, and Defenseman B has more league points this season.

Draft picks and keeper limits do not come back from Fantrax, so this uses the second-round pick and the three-keeper limit you gave me.

Counter instead of accepting: ask to keep the pick. Forward A fits a keeper slot for years, but you give up this season's points as well. Check Forward A's line and ice time in current reporting first.

Check a hockey trade offer

Use League Loom to confirm my NHL team, league, season and whether we use points or categories. Ask me for the offer if I have not supplied it, then analyze it with League Loom: who rosters each player, league points, projections where returned, age, injury status, any returned Fantrax salaries and the roster spots needed. Ask me for draft picks in the deal, keeper limits, contract years or cap rules that were not returned. For categories, compare only stat values that were returned or research you label. Give accept, pass or counter with the reason and what would change it. I will send or accept any trade myself.

What it will not do

  • Score a trade's value itself. The call is the assistant's judgment.
  • Return draft pick ownership or contract years for ESPN or Fantrax hockey leagues.
  • Send, accept or veto a trade. That happens in ESPN or Fantrax.

Draft season

A fantasy hockey AI draft helper for ESPN and Fantrax

League Loom gives Claude or ChatGPT the league context a hockey draft turns on: your ESPN or Fantrax scoring settings, skater and goalie slots, keepers and salaries where returned, and the draft results as picks are made. The assistant weighs forwards, defensemen and goalies against those rules and labels any outside rankings or news as research. Sleeper hockey is not supported.

Scoring decides the goalie question

Points leagues and category leagues value goalies very differently. Confirm goalie minimums and ratio categories such as save percentage from the returned settings, or supply them if they are missing.

Skater slots and depth

Center, wing, defense and utility slots and bench size come back where the provider exposes them, which is how the assistant judges whether a position is scarce in your league.

Keepers and salaries

Fantrax returns a current salary for rostered players, and ESPN draft results can flag keepers. Supply contract terms and keeper costs that are not returned.

ADP and projections

ESPN player lookups can include ESPN projections, ADP and average auction values. Fantrax available-player data can include ADP and, in viewable leagues, the league's stat columns, but Fantrax does not return league-scored projections.

Illustrative example with fictional players. It shows the shape of an answer, not a current ranking or a recorded league.

You askRound 8 of my ESPN points draft. Do I need a goalie yet?

Example answer

Your league returned a points format that scores goalie wins and saves, with two goalie slots and a lineup of two centers, two left wings, two right wings and four defensemen.

You have drafted six forwards, one defenseman and no goalies. Goalie A and Goalie B are still available, with ESPN ADP in the next two rounds.

Take a goalie now and a defenseman next round. Starts are not confirmed by the data, so check each goalie's expected workload in current reporting before you pick.

Work the live draft board

Use League Loom to confirm my NHL league, season and scoring format, then read the league settings, skater and goalie slots and the draft results so far. If the league or season is unclear, ask me before advising. List my drafted players by position, name the positions my roster still needs and say whether I have enough goalies for the league's rules. Suggest up to five targets for my next pick from players still available, using ADP, projections and stat categories only where they were returned, and label outside rankings, line combinations or goalie news as research. I will make my own pick.

What it will not do

  • Run a mock draft or predict other managers' picks.
  • Confirm goalie starts, line combinations or power-play units.
  • Connect a Sleeper hockey league, which is not supported.
  • Make your picks. You draft in ESPN or Fantrax.

Why League Loom

NHL waivers, goalies, trades and league reports

Fantasy hockey advice starts with the league you actually play in. League Loom supplies the roster, standings, settings, and player information your provider returns; the assistant interprets it.

In the preseason, use that context to identify roster gaps and research questions. During the season, ask for a weekly report with source limitations kept visible.

A fantasy matchup schedule describes teams in your fantasy league, not the real-world NHL schedule. Outside news and game schedules should be checked separately and labeled as outside research. Every move remains yours to make on your fantasy platform.

FAQ

Questions

Which fantasy hockey platforms are supported?

League Loom connects ESPN and Fantrax NHL leagues. Sleeper hockey is not supported. Check the capability matrix for differences in returned data.

Can it read a private Fantrax hockey league?

Yes. Add your Fantrax session cookie at setup and choose to use it for private leagues. Without it, a private league still returns rosters with salaries, standings and who plays whom, but not matchup scores, transactions or the full available-player pool. The cookie is entered only in League Loom's setup and used only to read.

Can it check a trade in a keeper or dynasty hockey league?

Yes, for ESPN and Fantrax leagues. League Loom returns who rosters each player, league points, age, injury status and, on Fantrax, current salary, and your assistant weighs the deal. Draft picks, keeper limits and contract years are not returned for hockey leagues, so supply them. You send or accept any trade yourself.

Does this work for points and category hockey leagues?

Yes, you can connect supported leagues and ask the assistant to use their scoring format and available rules. Per-player stat categories are returned only where a provider or public player research exposes them, such as ESPN player lookups and Fantrax available-player lookups, and labels and coverage vary. Matchup reads summarize team scores rather than a category-by-category breakdown, and category matchup forecasts are not supplied, so the assistant should not invent category projections or build a punt strategy from missing stats. Missing scoring rules should be supplied before giving format-specific advice.

Can I prepare for a draft or compare keepers?

Yes. Start with returned rosters, league settings, and draft data where available. Supply keeper eligibility, costs, deadlines, or contract terms that are missing. Last season's totals are historical context, not a current forecast; research role changes and injuries separately.

Do I have to select a personal team?

No. If no personal team is identified, the weekly digest provides a league overview of returned standings, matchups, and recent activity. Identify a team only when you want personal roster checks and team-specific recommendations.

What if I have several hockey leagues?

Connect them once, then name a league for a focused report or request all connected leagues. Each entry keeps its provider, league, team context, and data limitations. A connection can include both personal teams and leagues followed without a team selection.

Can it confirm tonight's starters or submit a move?

Confirmed goalie starts, power-play deployment, and full NHL game schedules are not supplied, and per-player stat categories vary by provider. Verify starts and roles separately before recommending a stream. 19 of the 20 tools retrieve or analyze league data; the other publishes a recap or power-ranking page only when you ask for a link. League Loom is free, and you submit lineup changes or claims on your fantasy platform.

Can it help during a live hockey draft?

Yes, for ESPN and Fantrax leagues. Once picks are made, League Loom reads the draft results so the assistant can list what your roster still needs, including goalies, and which returned players are still available. It does not run mock drafts or make picks, and goalie starts need a separate current source.

Is League Loom free?

Yes. The MCP server and connector are free, with no subscription and no per-league fee. Fair-use request budgets apply. Connect supported ESPN, Sleeper, and Fantrax leagues and ask questions from your AI tool.
