The weekly walkthrough, prompt by prompt

How to Use ChatGPT for Fantasy Football

To use ChatGPT for fantasy football, connect your ESPN, Sleeper or Fantrax NFL league through League Loom, a free, read-only connector.

You'll need a ChatGPT account with Developer mode access on the web. Try five prompts: rate my team, start/sit, waivers, a trade check and your matchup. ChatGPT's phone apps cannot use custom apps; League Loom works in Claude.

How do I connect my fantasy football league to ChatGPT?

Before you start: use a ChatGPT account with Developer mode access on the web. League Loom is free; ChatGPT's plan and workspace requirements still apply.

Turn on Developer mode, add League Loom as a custom app with OAuth, then choose your ESPN, Sleeper or Fantrax league.

Select League Loom in your chat, then ask about your roster. Make any lineup, waiver or trade changes in your fantasy app.

Before your first question

How to connect

1

Check Developer mode access

Use ChatGPT on the web with an account that can enable Developer mode. On a personal account, open Settings, then Security and login, and turn on Developer mode. Workspace access and settings depend on your administrator.

2

Add League Loom

Go to Plugins (some accounts show Apps), use the + button to add https://leagueloom.com/mcp, and choose OAuth. Complete the sign-in and choose your ESPN, Sleeper or Fantrax NFL league and team.

3

Confirm your team before asking

Select League Loom under Developer mode in your chat. Ask it to confirm your team, league and season, then try a prompt below. You make any lineup, waiver or trade changes in your fantasy app.

Open setup wizard →

Your tool asks for a name and this URL. Then connect your leagues in the setup wizard. Personal team selection is optional.

Five prompts for your football week

Start with rate my team

Ask ChatGPT to read your roster, scoring and standings, then rate the team by position group and name your single biggest weakness. That one answer sets up every other question in the week.

Then the lineup call

Ask for a start/sit call on every slot you are unsure about, with the reason, and have it flag any slot already locked for this lineup period rather than suggesting a swap you cannot make.

Then waivers, with the drop

Ask for the best available players in that league, the drop each one would cost you, and your returned FAAB balance or waiver position. Confirm the claim deadline yourself; no provider returns it.

Check an offer when one arrives

Compare both rosters, the starting slots the trade would change and the depth left behind. Ask for an accept, pass or counter recommendation, with missing keeper rules or deadlines confirmed by you.

Then the matchup

Ask for your fantasy matchup and the score as of the returned snapshot. Separate live scores from projections, and identify unfinished starters only where game or lineup information supports it.

Worked example

Five decisions for your football week

Start with a team review, then copy the prompt for the decision you need. A trade check is useful when you have an offer to compare.

  1. Rate my team

Ask for a position-by-position read with your biggest weakness named, and make ChatGPT cite the roster and standings it actually read.

  2. Fix the weakness

Take that weakness into the waiver ask: the best available player at that position, the drop, and what the claim would cost from your returned budget.

  3. Set the lineup

Ask for a call on every uncertain slot with the reason, and leave any locked slot alone. Recheck before kickoff if a status came back questionable.

  4. Check a trade offer

Compare the roster you have with the one the offer would leave you. Ask what would change the recommendation before you send or accept anything.

  5. Check the matchup

Ask for a score snapshot and what remains unresolved. If player game status is missing, have the assistant say so instead of guessing who has yet to play.

Copy the prompt for your next decision

Paste one into your connected AI conversation. Each starts by checking the team and season.

1. Rate my team

Use League Loom to confirm my selected NFL team and season, then read my roster, scoring, starting slots and standings. If the team or season is unclear, ask me before advising. Review each position group, name my biggest roster weakness and explain it using the returned data. Separate facts from your judgment, flag missing fields and cite any outside research separately. Finish with one priority for this week. I will make any moves myself.

2. Make a start/sit call

Use League Loom to confirm my NFL team, season and lineup period. Read my roster, scoring, eligible slots and player lock states. Ask which decision I need if I have not named it. For each uncertain slot, compare eligible options and give a start/sit call with the reason. Keep locked slots unchanged; if a lock state is unknown, ask me to confirm it before suggesting a swap. Use projections only where returned, and cite current news or other research separately. Flag missing injury information. I will set the lineup myself.

3. Plan a waiver claim

Use League Loom to confirm my NFL team and season, then read my roster, scoring and available-player pool. Suggest up to three available adds with a possible drop, the roster need each fills and the trade-off. Use remaining FAAB or waiver priority only where returned; do not treat a season budget as my remaining balance. Respect roster locks and ask me to confirm unknown eligibility and the claim deadline. Flag missing data and cite outside news separately. Return a short add/drop table. I will submit any claims myself.

4. Check a trade offer

Use League Loom to confirm my NFL team and season. Ask me for the offer if I have not supplied it, then read both teams' rosters, our scoring, roster slots and standings. Compare the starting lineup and bench depth I would have before and after the trade. Give an accept, pass or counter recommendation with the reason and what would change it. Separate returned stats from forecasts and outside research. Ask for missing keeper costs, contract rules or the trade deadline instead of inventing them. I will send or accept any trade myself.

5. Check my matchup

Use League Loom to confirm my NFL team, season and current scoring period, then read my fantasy matchup. Show the fantasy opponent, score and snapshot time where returned. Keep projected, live and final scores separate. Identify starters who have yet to play only when game or lineup information supports it; otherwise say that their status is unknown. Do not infer game timing from injury status. Flag missing fields, and cite any real-world schedule research separately. Explain what remains uncertain. Treat this as a snapshot when I ask, not a continuous update or alert.

Why League Loom

The weekly walkthrough, prompt by prompt

Without a league connection, ChatGPT is guessing. It does not know your roster, scoring, bench, or waiver pool, and pasted data goes stale as soon as the league changes.

Add League Loom as a custom connector, authorize it, and choose your team in the setup wizard. ChatGPT can then use live rosters, standings, matchups, available players, scoring rules, waiver settings, and Sleeper FAAB details.

Ask who to start at flex, which receivers are trending on your waiver wire, or how your playoff format works; no write-action tools are registered today.

FAQ

Questions

Can ChatGPT access my fantasy football league?

Not on its own. Add League Loom's MCP connector at leagueloom.com/mcp and ChatGPT can read your live league data to answer roster questions.

How do I connect it?

Use a ChatGPT account with Developer mode access on the web. On a personal account, turn it on under Settings, Security and login, then use the + button on the Plugins page to add https://leagueloom.com/mcp with OAuth. Link your ESPN, Sleeper or Fantrax league, then select League Loom under Developer mode in your chat. The ChatGPT fantasy sports guide has the full requirements and setup steps.

Is it safe and free?

The League Loom connector is free, with no subscription or per-league fee; fair-use request budgets apply. ChatGPT has separate plan and workspace requirements for Developer mode. Current League Loom tools only read or analyze data. You make any lineup, waiver or trade changes in your fantasy app.

Can ChatGPT tell me who's injured before I set my lineup?

Once connected, ChatGPT surfaces injury and bye-week status on your best-available list and when it checks your lineup, pulled from your league data. It won't pull outside news or beat-reporter updates, so treat it as a roster-level check, not a full injury report.

Does ChatGPT know my league's actual scoring and waiver rules?

Yes, once League Loom is connected it can read your league's real settings, scoring format, lineup slots, waiver or FAAB system, and playoff structure, and explain them in plain language instead of guessing at generic defaults.

Will ChatGPT actually make waiver claims or set my lineup for me?

Current connector tools recommend waiver and start/sit decisions; no write-action tools are registered today.

How do I get ChatGPT to rate my team?

Ask it to read your roster, scoring and standings first, then rate the team by position group and name your single biggest weakness, citing what it read. Take that weakness straight into the waiver ask so the rating becomes a move you can actually make.

Where do I find more prompts?

The full library of weekly prompts, including the waiver report, lineup check and trade finder, lives on the prompts page. This page is the football walkthrough; the cross-sport overview of what ChatGPT can read sits on the ChatGPT fantasy sports page.

Can I set League Loom up on my phone?

Add the connector on a computer: claude.ai or Claude Desktop, or ChatGPT on the web. What works on a phone afterward depends on the assistant. In Claude, a connector added on the web or desktop is also available in the Claude iOS and Android apps, so you can ask about your leagues from your phone. In ChatGPT, custom apps like League Loom currently run only on the web, not in the ChatGPT phone apps. If you start on a phone, use Send to my computer to email or message yourself the link and finish later.
